A discipleship and generosity initiative designed to fuel the vision God has given Athens Church through 2030 and beyond.

Psalm 78:4–7

We will not hide these truths from our children; we will tell the next generation about the glorious deeds of the Lord, about His power and His mighty wonders.

For He issued His laws to Jacob; He gave His instructions to Israel. He commanded our ancestors to teach them to their children, so the next generation might know them—even the children not yet born—and they in turn will teach their own children.

So each generation should set its hope anew on God, not forgetting His glorious miracles and obeying His commands.

A letter

from Pastor Sean Seay

On January 23, 2005, we gathered for the first Athens Church service at Cedar Shoals High School. That night, I shared the heart of the church we hoped to become: a group of people fully surrendered to Jesus.

We ended that first service by singing Take My Life. One of its central prayers was simple: “Here am I, all of me.” More than twenty-one years later, that prayer still captures the kind of church we want to be.

We want Athens Church to be a place where anyone can show up—questions, imperfections and all—and discover that they are valued and loved. We want people to encounter the God who made them, trust Jesus with every part of their lives and learn to live fully surrendered to Him.

Psalm 78 calls God’s people to tell the next generation about His power and faithfulness so that they, too, will put their hope in Him. We are beneficiaries of people who prayed, served, sacrificed and gave before us. Now it is our turn to build upon what they entrusted to us. That is the heart behind For Generations.

“But God’s work was never intended to stop with us.”

Together, we are trusting God to change thousands of individual lives, expand our impact throughout our city, and equip leaders who will serve the Church long after us. We are praying for people who have not yet walked through our doors, families we have not yet met, and leaders who have not yet discovered their calling.

For Generations is not simply a fundraising campaign. It is a discipleship initiative. Over these six weeks, we are asking every person who calls Athens Church home to seek God honestly and respond obediently—especially in the area of generosity.

Although our giving won’t look the same, everyone can take a step of faith. Our prayer is that we would become a church marked by open hands, courageous obedience, and a vision that extends far beyond our own lifetimes.

My wife, Bonnie, and I are praying about the step God is asking us to take. We hope you will join us.

What might God do For Generations through our faithfulness today?

What is
For Generations?

For Generations is a discipleship and generosity initiative designed to fuel the vision God has given Athens Church through 2030 and beyond.

Our theme passage, Psalm 78:4–7, reminds us that faith is meant to be passed forward. We tell the next generation what God has done so that they will place their hope in Him, remember His faithfulness, and follow His ways.

We have inherited a legacy built by people who prayed, served and gave sacrificially. For Generations is our opportunity to carry that legacy forward.

Primary goal

100% engagement

For Generations is first and foremost a discipleship initiative. We want everyone who calls Athens Church home to have a personal encounter with God in the area of generosity.

Success is not everyone giving the same amount. Success is every person asking the same question:

God, what are You asking me to do?

We invite you to pray with an open heart, listen for God’s direction and respond with courageous obedience.

Secondary goal

Each number is a person.
Each one is a miracle.

Over the next two years, we’re praying that our giving as a church would grow to $50 million to reach more people, impact our city, and raise up the next generation of leaders.

01

Impacting
individuals

We are trusting God for:

  • 1,000 people to explore faith through Starting Point
  • 1,000 people to publicly express faith through Baptism
  • 1,000 people to grow and mature in faith through the Growth Trilogy

This is about real people taking real steps toward Jesus — discovering faith, declaring faith, and deepening faith.

02

Impacting
our city

We believe Athens and the surrounding communities are worth investing in. By 2030 we aim to:

  • Launch a third church location in Oconee County
  • Expand partnerships through Athens, I Love You® and increase our tangible investment in the spiritual and practical needs of our city

We don’t just want to attend church in Athens — we want to bless Athens.

03

Impacting the future
of the Church

We are committed to raising up leaders who will serve the Church long after us. By 2030 we will:

  • Train 100 college and graduate-level students through our LDP and Residency programs in order to develop future pastors, ministry leaders, and marketplace leaders
  • Equip young leaders with wisdom, courage, and character

This is about multiplication — not just addition.

Together we are trusting God to

Expand partnerships through Athens, I Love You®$2M
Develop 100 future leaders through the Residency and Leadership Development Program$4M

Our normal expected giving during this season is $25M, but we are asking God to expand this to $50M so we can advance the mission. These goals require resources, but they begin with hearts surrendered to Jesus.

Ready to commit
to the vision?

This is a special moment in our church’s history. What God is doing is truly miraculous. We believe He will still move in mighty ways and is asking us to join Him, challenging us toward deeper faith, broader impact, and lasting influence.

The progress made because of your generosity is extraordinary, but it’s only a glimpse of what’s possible when we fully surrender to what God wants to do. Let’s step out in faith, seize this opportunity to fully surrender to Him, and transform lives for His kingdom together.

Ready to be part of all that God’s doing in and through us?
