FAQs

Questions we hear most often about what we’re asking, how long it lasts, and what to do if this season feels uncertain.

What are you asking me to do?

We ask that you pray and seek God for how He wants you to respond. Prepare your heart to hear Him, and then listen to what He says. Talk with your spouse, family, or friends about what this commitment will mean moving forward. Respond to the generosity of the gospel by giving obediently in a way that can have an impact For Generations.

How long is my commitment?

We are asking everyone to make a two-year commitment. The fulfillment period for your commitment will begin with our First Big Give on December 6, 2026, and will culminate in December of 2028.

What if I can’t afford to give right now?

Even in times of scarcity, God always desires your heart. The widow who gave her two coins may not have made a very large financial contribution in terms of the amount, but Jesus said she gave the largest gift of all (Mark 12:42).

For Generations is about surrendering to God and trusting Him. It may mean that God is asking you to trust Him by making a faith commitment. God has supplied your every need in Christ, and you trust that He will honor a heart that desires to give generously in response to the gospel. There may also be ways to be sacrificial in your lifestyle to create margin for generosity. Find ways to involve the entire family and teach children to follow the Lord with a generous heart and to trust Him. This season is a great opportunity to take a look at our overall stewardship of all that God has entrusted to us.

What if I’m new here?

We’re excited that God led you to Athens Church. We believe the local church is God’s plan for leading the people of our city into a growing relationship with Jesus Christ. Now is a great time to join our mission and say, “I want people to know and hear the gospel For Generations.”

What if I’m in debt? Am I still supposed to give?

Generosity should always be a part of our lives in every season, even if it looks different. If you are in the process of paying off debt, we commend you, we encourage you, and you should continue to do so. If you need help in this area, we would be honored to help. The Bible does not teach that we withhold giving until we are debt-free, but rather that we give joyfully throughout various seasons, even if it looks different. It is a wonderful way to continue experiencing the joy of generosity and giving back to the God who has so generously given to us.

What if I’m moving within the next two years, or I’m uncertain how long I’ll be part of Athens Church?

The truth is that none of us know exactly what our future will hold. That’s the beauty and challenge of taking steps of faith. Even if you’re not sure you’ll be part of Athens Church for the full span of the next two years, we invite you to still commit to generosity and be a part of this life-changing endeavor God has for our church in this season. If needed, you may modify your commitment at any time. Often, people continue to support Athens Church even after they’ve left the area — as a ministry they continue to be a part of into the future. If you happen to move out of the area, we would love for that to be your story.

I have more questions. Who can I talk with?

We’d love to talk with you, whether that be on the phone, via email, or in person. To begin this conversation, please reach out to our Stewardship Director, Bronson Crawford, at [email protected].
