About Bill
Bill Stanford, PhD, is a pastoral counselor and the founder of The Inner Room, where he works with individuals, couples, and parents. As a Christian counselor and a published research scientist, Bill is committed to an approach that is rigorously informed by scientific research, but also grounded upon the central message of the Gospel--that our hearts find their ultimate peace in the saving love of God. Bill specializes in working with men and women who are experiencing high levels of anxiety, intrusive/unwanted thoughts, depression, and issues related to faith. Bill also works with couples facing relationship breakdowns and parents who feel overwhelmed by their children.
Bill holds a PhD in Human Development and Family Science (University of Georgia), as well as an MA in Marriage and Family Therapy and Counseling (Reformed Theological Seminary). He has specialized training in Gottman Model Couples Therapy (Levels 1 and 2), Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and Trust-Based Relational Interventions. In addition to his work as a counselor, Bill is an ordained minister, serving as the Associate Priest for Marriage and Family at St. Thomas Anglican Church in Athens.
