The first week focuses on detaching from distractions, resentment, and discouragement to connect with the Father, find real rest, and experience gratitude, joy, peace, and hope.

Start Talking 

  • Have you ever felt like technology or another distraction was pulling you away from what matters most?
  • How can we use technology in a way that doesn’t use us?
  • The Amish approach technology intentionally—how do you determine what role technology should play in your life?
  • Clay mentioned being distracted by his phone during time with God. When have you experienced something similar?
  • Have you ever fasted from technology or another distraction? 
    • What did you learn from that experience?


Read This

Read Exodus 34:14

  • This verse says God is a jealous God. What does that mean to you? 
  • How does His jealousy differ from human jealousy?

Read 1 Corinthians 6:12

  • This verse reminds us that while we have freedom, not everything is beneficial. What’s something in your life that might be “permissible” but not “beneficial”?


What Now

  • What’s one thing that is stealing your attention from God?
    • What have we allowed to take His place?
  • If Jesus walked into your house today, what might He ask you to detach from?
  • The sermon suggests small ways to detach—like turning off notifications or putting your phone in another room. Which of these could you try this week?
  • What is one practical step you can take to replace screen time with connection—with God, family, or friends?
  • How can we encourage each other as a group to stay intentional about our attention?


You can’t attach to what matters most until you detach from what doesn’t.
