Digital Fast: Part 1

Our way of life leaves us exhausted, lonely & discouraged. And none of us intentionally chose this.

Discussion Questions

Start Talking

  • How have these technological advances improved your life?
    • In what ways have they made life more difficult or overwhelming?
  • Do you ever feel like your smartphone is making you “dumber” or more forgetful?
    • How do you manage information differently now compared to before smartphones?
  • What digital distractions consume the most of your time? (e.g., social media, streaming, gaming, news, etc.) How do these affect your mood, energy, or relationships?

What Now

  • How has social media affected the way people connect and interact with each other?
    • Has it strengthened or weakened relationships in your life?
  • Why do you think younger generations are spending less time with friends, getting less sleep, and losing interest in driving?
  • How does our exhaustion and need for constant entertainment keep us from living with intentionality and purpose?
  • What are some specific ways you can be more intentional about pursuing peace, joy, and spiritual growth in a digitally-distracted world?
  • The sermon introduced a 28-day Digital Fast. What excites you about this challenge?
    • What scares you about it?
  • Which of the practical steps mentioned (turning off notifications, getting an alarm clock, removing distraction apps, etc.) would be most helpful for you?
  • How can we encourage and support each other as we go through this fast together?
  • What are some things you hope to gain from this digital fast?
    • How do you think it could change your relationship with God, your family, and your daily habits?
  • How can we use this season of Lent to realign our priorities and give more attention to the things that truly matter?

The God who made us wants our attention. He wants to be with us in an undistracted way. He wants to speak His love to us. He wants to calm our fears. He wants to give us courage. He’s so for us!
