Devotion
Prayer of Examen – Luke 15
1. Become aware of God’s presence
Luke 15:20 – “But while he was still a long way off, his father saw him and was filled with compassion for him...”
Father, before I even speak, You see me. You run toward me.
Let me rest in Your loving gaze.
Open my heart to Your presence as I look back over this day with You.
2. Review the day with gratitude
Luke 15:6 – “Rejoice with me; I have found my lost sheep.”
Lord, thank You for seeking me today — in big moments or small ones.
Where did I feel found? Loved? Welcomed?
Thank You for signs of Your presence: a conversation, a moment of peace, a simple joy.
3. Pay attention to your emotions and actions
Luke 15:13 – “Not long after that, the younger son got together all he had... and squandered his wealth in wild living.”
Where today did I wander away from Your heart?
Where did I chase lesser things — comfort, control, approval?
Was I like the younger son, drifting?
Or like the older son, holding bitterness or self-righteousness?
4. Express sorrow and ask for healing
Luke 15:21 – “Father, I have sinned against heaven and against you.”
Lord, I bring You my brokenness.
I confess where I’ve turned from You — in attitude, in action, or in silence.
I trust in Your mercy, knowing You run to meet me with open arms.
Heal what is hurt. Restore what is lost.
5. Look forward with hope
Luke 15:32 – “But we had to celebrate and be glad, because this brother of yours was dead and is alive again...”
Lord, tomorrow, help me live like someone You’ve joyfully welcomed home.
Let me join in Your mission — seeking the lost, showing compassion, celebrating redemption.
Help me see others through Your eyes and live as part of Your restoring love.
Amen.
