One of the amazing things about God is how He reveals Himself to us. He doesn’t wait on us to become holy enough to talk to Him. Rather, He has directly interacted with our world since day one. Through these interactions, we get to see His character in action.


Discussion Questions


Start Talking  

  • On a scale of 1-10, how comfortable are you with praying?

  • Do you find it hard to bring your requests before God in prayer?

  • Do you feel like prayer is beneficial, like it does anything?

  • What types of things keep you from praying?

Read This

  • Read Luke 11:1-13

    • In the first part of this passage, what does the disciple ask Jesus to teach them about?

    • In the rest of this passage Jesus gives an illustration about prayer. What do these verses tell us about how we should pray?

  • Read Psalm 21:1-4 and Psalm 21:13

    • These verses are an example of a prayer of thanksgiving. What is David thanking God for?

    • Is David praising his own strength for his victories? 

    • Who does He acknowledge as giving him the victory?

  • Read Psalm 88:6-9 and Psalm 88:18

    • These verses are an example of a prayer of lament. What is something that stands out to you about the way that David prays here?

    • Are you comfortable praying to God with this type of prayer?

    • Can you identify with the emotions that David is expressing in these verses?

  • Read Psalm 13:1-6

    • These verses are an example of a waiting prayer. In the beginning of this prayer, what is David asking?

    • There is a change that happens between verses 4 and 5. What is it?

  • Read Proverbs 3:5-6

    • According to these verses, who should we trust?

    • Why shouldn’t we trust in our own understanding?

    • What is God’s promise in these verses?

What Now

  • Share a time when God answered YES to a prayer and give thanks to God for what He has done.

  • Share a time when God answered NO to a prayer. Take time to mourn and seek God’s peace. 

  • Share a prayer request that is still UNANSWERED. 

    • How are you handling the waiting? Are you angry, tired, confused, expectant, hopeful?

    • How is God growing you in the waiting?

    • How can we as a group pray for you while you wait?


Know that He can. Believe that He will. Trust Him if He doesn’t.
