Start Talking 

  • What comes to mind when you hear the word ‘legacy?’

  • Who in your life do you feel like has left or is leaving a legacy?

  • What things in your life keep you from living a life that will leave a legacy to your family, children, friends?

  • Our legacy is built in the “long middle of life.” Do you feel like you are living with purpose during the long middle of your life or just surviving and getting through the day?

  • Read Matthew 6:33

    • What does Jesus say we should seek first in this verse?

    • What does He say is the reward for seeking this first?

    • Which is easier seeking His kingdom or your own?

    • Which choice produces a good legacy?

  • Read Proverbs 13:22

    • According to this verse, who receives the benefit of any inheritance or legacy that we leave behind?

What Now

  • In this season of your life, what do you want?

  • How can we make sure that our wants and desires are lining up with what God wants for us?

  • Do you often feel like you are having to choose between what you want and what God wants?

    • Which do you typically choose?

    • Do you feel any guilt because of that?

  • How can we know what God wants for us and our family? 

  • Spending time with God allows you to hear what He wants for you. What is the hardest part about spending time with God and hearing Him?

    • Do you ever feel like He is silent and you can’t know what He wants for you?

  • Do you ever feel like you are trying your hardest and you still fall short? Or your children are still misbehaving and not acting like you want them to?

  • When you see other parents who seem to have control over their kids, what is your reaction?

    • Do you wish you could parent like them?

    • Do you judge them and think they must be overbearing or too strict?

  • Is your goal in parenting to produce kids under your control or to produce God’s character in yourself and your kids?

    • How do we produce God’s character in our lives and our children’s lives?

  • Throughout the Bible, we see that Jesus prayed when he was facing things in his earthly life. How can we develop a habit of prayer in our lives?

    • What are some practical ways that you can develop prayer in your children’s lives?

    • Do you ever feel like you can only pray about the big things in your life and not the everyday things?

    • How can we change our mindset to seek God in ALL things in our lives so that we can leave a legacy of prayer for our children?
