Tell him, ‘This is what the Lord of Heaven’s Armies says: Here is the man called the Branch.

– Zechariah 6:12 (NLT)

The Old Testament is full of prophecies that foretell of Christ’s coming. Here, Zechariah places a crown on the head of Joshua and speaks of a man called "the Branch” who will unite the roles of king and priest. This foretells of the coming Messiah who will serve as both King and Priest to the people, bringing perfect harmony to these two roles. Jesus, “the Branch,” will be both perfect King and perfect Priest. He will reign over God’s people, making intercession for them and makes atonement for sin.

Reflection Question

Have you allowed Christ to be both Perfect King and Perfect Priest, who brings harmony and peace in your life?

Yes, he will build the Temple of the Lord. Then he will receive royal honor and will rule as king from his throne. He will also serve as priest from his throne, and there will be perfect harmony between his two roles.’
