The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. The Holy Spirit wants to produce this fruit in you. This week we are taking a look at the idea of Goodness in a Time of Darkness.  Another way of saying this is “light in the dark”! We believe the Holy Spirit gives us access to these things, despite what is going on around us. We hope you enjoy this week’s conversation and that God uses it to show you where he is being GOOD in your life!

Start Talking

  • Who is someone that you would describe as “good” and why?
  • How would you define goodness?
  • In what ways have you seen yourself fight for “goodness” with your actions (maybe in your younger years vs. how you do this as an adult)?

Think About It

  • How would you say goodness is different from kindness?
  • Do you believe that hard things can also be good? If yes, discuss where you have found this to be true in your life
  • Who is someone who has been “Good” to you?

Look It Up

  • Read Galatians 5:1-16
    1. What stands out to you?
    2. Describe the “battle” happening in these verses
  • Can you relate to the desire of the Rich Young Ruler in Matthew 19:16-31? (*He is asking what good thing he needs to do to inherit eternal life)
  • Oftentimes we think “bad or good” things are happening to us, but as mentioned in Sunday’s conversation (and in Galatians), the battle for bad vs. good is actually happening in us. How have you found this internal struggle to be true for you?

What Now?

  • What would you say goodness looks like in your life?
  • If we believe that the Holy Spirit allows goodness to exist in us, how do we reflect that to those around us?
  • What does it look like to “yield” to the Holy Spirit and allow him to produce goodness in you? What does it look like to be disciplined in goodness?
  • Read Romans 12:9. How do we cling to what is good?
  • How can you cling to what is good this week in your life?

One Thing to Remember

Goodness produces in our life as we get to know the goodness of God. He is a good Father.
