Well 2020 is over and everyone said, “AMEN!” 2021 is a new year…fresh start…clean slate. Though the calendar has changed, life as you know it has not. Life change takes more than “crossing your fingers.” It is going to take faith.

Start Talking

  • On a scale from 1-10, how eager were you for 2020 to be in the rear view mirror?
  • Name something good that happened in your life in 2020? What made it good for you?
  • What is one thing you are personally hoping for in 2021?
  • Do you have a personal goal, resolution, word, or theme you have set for 2021? Please share it.
  • What area of your life do you want to see real change this year? PS: Go deeper than normal categories.

Think About It

  • Have you gone through Financial Peace University with Dave Ramsey? Talk about your experience. What was helpful? What was hard? What goals did you meet?
  • But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. Matthew 6:33. What would it look like for you to have this verse as a filter for living? What area of your life does this verse seem unattainable?
  • Would you consider yourself a generous person? What is your plan to help you be a generous person?
  • In terms of finances, do you use “Give First. Save Second. Live off the rest” or something very similar? How has this plan helped you? What is hard about this plan for you?

Look It Up

  • Read 1 Timothy 6:17-19
    • What phrases stand out to you in this passage?
    • Paul uses the word “command” twice in passage to increase the seriousness of the issue. Why do you think he did this?
    • What challenge does this passage bring to you personally?
    • What would your life look like if you took this passage to heart in 2021?
  • Read these passages…

“A tithe is everything from the land, whether grain from the soil or fruit from the trees belongs to the Lord; it is holy to the Lord.” –Leviticus 27:30.

“Honor the Lord with your wealth, with the firstfruits of all your crops.” –Proverbs 3:9.

“The Lord said to Moses, “Consecrate to me every firstborn male. The first offspring of every womb among the Israelites belongs to me, whether human or animal.” You are to give over to the Lord the first offspring of every womb. All the firstborn males of your livestock belong to the Lord. Redeem with a lamb every firstborn donkey, but if you do not redeem it, break its neck. Redeem every firstborn among your sons.” –Exodus 13:1-2, 12-13.

    • Which verse grabbed your attention the most?
    • What do these passages have in common?
    • What are they telling us about what God desires from us?

What Now?

  • We would all like to experience financial hope in 2021. Describe what that would look like for you. If you already experience financial hope, share how you got to that place in your heart and life?
  • Read Malachi 3:6-12
    • What stands out to you?
    • What do you think about God asking us to test him?
  • “Tithing is returning the first 10% of our increase back to God through the local church.” Have you considered taking the 3 Month Tithe Challenge to invite God into your finances? If you already tithe, what would your next step in generosity?

Take a Step…

  • What is God asking you to do with your finances in 2021?
