Athens Church is about a 10 minute drive from campus, and we also charter a UGA bus from campus each Sunday during the school year for students who don’t have a car. Here are 6 ways college students can get involved at church this semester:
Sunday Morning Services
Join us at 9:15 or 11:00 for our Sunday morning church services. This is a great opportunity to, not only, meet other college students, but also worship and serve alongside Athens area families as well. Each Sunday during the school year, a UGA bus picks up and drops off from campus to Athens Church (see pickup times). Services last about one hour.
College Community Groups
We offer small groups for college students based on gender and class. In a college community group, students meet weekly with about 10 other guys or girls in the home of a family from Athens Church. An adult leader facilitates discussion around the topic that we talked about at church that Sunday. The next opportunity to join a community group is at Collegelink is Sunday, January 29. Sign up here.
Volunteering on Sundays
We invite all college students to not just attend, but volunteer at Athens Church as well. On these strategic service teams, students are able to make friends and use their leadership gifts to serve others. Teams include guest services, production, and children’s environments preK through high school.
GlobalX Mission Trips
Each spring break, we give students the opportunity to use their spring break to serve internationally on a globalX mission trip. This is a great opportunity for students to meet new people, grow in their faith, and serve others. We take trips each spring break to Nicaragua, Haiti, and the Dominican Republic to serve our ministry partners there. Applications for 2019 trips open in October.
The Leadership Development Program is a leadership journey that combines hands-on ministry experience with practical leadership training. Each school year, we hire about a dozen LDP college staff to be a part of our team, and they work approximately 20 hours a week. This is an advanced, engaged internship program with considerable responsibility. Applications are currently closed for LDP in 2019.
This semester, Athens Church is hosting 3 Tuesday night gatherings exclusively for college students: January 29, February 26, and April 9. These College Nights feature both a hang out time, plus worship and teaching specific to college students, and are incredible opportunities not only for Athens Church college students to meet one another, but also to invite friends who’ve never experienced the church before.
